  1. Using a large, heavy frying pan with a cover, heat the oil until it is fragrant
  2. Add the onion and saute over high heat, making sure to stir frequently or until it starts to brown a little bit, this should take about 4 minutes
  3. Next, lower the heat and continue cooking, stirring often, until the onions turn golden brown, this should take about 10 minutes more
  4. Then add garlic, garam masala and cayenne, lower the heat to medium high and saute for another 2 minutes
  5. Stir in the ground spices and saute this for another 2 minutes while stirring
  6. Add the meat into the mix and stir well and brown the meat into the spices for around 5 minutes
  7. Afterwards, add the tomato paste mixture and cardamom seeds and stir well
  8. Now lower the heat again and cover the pan tightly, simmer for about 30 minutes while stirring occasionally, add more water using a tablespoon if the sauce begins to stick to the pan
  9. Finally, uncover the pan and stir in the lemon juice and salt

Serve with rice.
