Happy Family Stew



  1. Heat enough oil to cover bottom of large, heavy pan until oil is sizzling.
  2. Brown steak on a high heat, in batches if required, turning when brown on one side. Once browned all over, remove and set aside.
  3. Reduce heat; add onions and garlic to pan and cook over a low heat until soft.
  4. Return meat with its juice to pan; add plum tomatoes, carrots, stock, chillies, oregano, cumin, worcestershire sauce and soy sauce and bring liquid to a boil.
  5. Reduce heat and simmer very gently, partially covered, 2 to 2.5 hours or until meat is tender
  6. Ten or so minutes before serving, cook rice as per packet instructions
  7. Just before serving, break the meat up into bite-size pieces
  8. Season with salt and pepper and serve over cooked rice.
