Traditional English Shepherd's Pie recipe

Method

  1. Put leftover mash in large bowl with butter, milk and season to taste with salt and pepper. Set aside.
  2. Saute beef until browned, stirring to keep meat crumbly.
  3. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
  4. Add tomato, mushrooms, parsley, tomato paste, worcestershire and gravy.  Stir to mix.
  5. Add peas and cook about 5 minutes.
  6. Turn mixture into a medium casserole dish.
  7. Spread potatoes evenly over meat.
  8. Sprinkle with chees (optional).
  9. Bake at 200 degrees C (Gas Mark 6) 40 minutes until top is crispy brown.
